Noah is 4

April 12th, 2010 Kourtney Aller 1 comment

So, my baby turned 4 on April 9.  Time flies!  Since he turned for he has given up his blankie and sucking his 2 fingers! yippee!  I told him that once he turned 4 he would be too old to have those things and so he gave them up willingly!  He had his four year check-up today and weighs 39 pounds and is 41 1/4 inches tall.  He’s in the 75th percentile for both weight and height.  He’s healthy!  Dr. Stephens said everything sounds and looks good.  I fixed spider cookies for both his classes last week as a treat for his birthday.  Friday night on his actual birthday we also celebrated KK’s birthday.  We had hamburgers, beans, chips, and French Pastry dessert.  Saturday afternoon we had a family birthday party for him and the theme was New Super Mario Brothers.  It was so fun!  I made cookies in the shape of the Mario mushrooms.  We also had chips, taquitos, cheddar poppers, potato skins, strawberry cake, and pound cake.  The kids played outside at Nonna and Grampy’s house on the new swingset they bought him.  They also blew bubbles, rode the little motorized toys, and played with play dough.  He got some really nice presents like some wii games, dvd’s, clothes, trucks, teeter totter, swingset, and more!

Noah at the doctor's office

here are some funny things he’s said to us lately:

Noah (playing on his pretend cell phone): “say cheese! I’m taking your picture.  Now you can look at it!”

Noah (playing on his pretend cell phone): “I’m texting people”

Noah (playing words with friends on his pretend cell phone):  “I just got a triple word and beat you at scrabble.”

Noah: “Mom, I cried for you at preschool today.”  Me: “Why?” Noah: “Because I missed you.  That’s why!”

Noah’s advice and other sayings

February 16th, 2010 Kourtney Aller 1 comment

Noah cracks us up!  He loves playing the “super new mario brothers” which is Super Mario brothers on the Wii.  That has been our leverage lately like if he stays in bed when we put him there at night then he gets to play a few worlds in the morning.  If he’s good at school then he gets to play a few worlds when he comes home.  He is in the preschool class at MDO now and he thinks he’s a big boy.  We also put a digital clock in his room and told him that in the mornings he can get up and go to the bathroom but that he has to get back in bed until the first number is a 7.  For two days it has worked now so I hope it continues!  Here’s what happened yesterday: Noah had to go to the bathroom so I followed him to help him with his pants.  He was carrying around a little red rubber ball so he set it on the bathroom counter.  After he used the bathroom he washed his hands and I handed him the towel to dry his hands.  I walked out of the bathroom and turned out the light.  He followed me out and said “Hey, it’s not nice to turn the light out when someone is in there because then they can’t see their balls.”  I kept a straight face then cracked up after he left the room (juvenile, I know!) but it struck me as funny.  Stephanie watched him and Nathan today while I worked and Noah was brushing his teeth tonight and told me he needed one of those toothbrushes with the button that spins around.  I asked him where he’d seen that and he said “At Stephanie’s house.  I found it in the bathroom and tried it out.  I liked it so I need to buy one.”  Needless to say I called Stephanie and told her to sterilize the mechanical toothbrush in her bathroom that belongs to her daughter!

Nathan counting, singing, talking

February 16th, 2010 Kourtney Aller No comments

Nathan is 26.5 months old and talking so well now!  His big thing now is “why?”  Every time I say something, he says “why?”  I tell him the sky is blue and he asks why.  It’s cute.  He’ll repeat almost anything we say.  Tonight we were reading a book and I told him something then he said “let me show you.”  He is such a mama’s boy.  He always wants me.  He wants me to rock him before bed every night.  He can count to ten and sing the alphabet song. He also sings Silent Night and Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.  He loves eating Cuties (clementines).  He and Noah run and play and have so much fun together!

Nathan is almost two!

November 17th, 2009 Kourtney Aller No comments

Nathan is almost two and is changing all the time.  In about the last 3-4 weeks he’s been talking a lot and making short sentences.  He’ll repeat what we say to him and try out new words and phrases.  We are done with the pacifier as of Sunday.  We cut the nipples in half last week and he told me they were broken.  We went to visit Sonya and Darran thursday night and I told him to give his paci to baby Natalie because she needed it.  He said “no, mine” but I took it and gave it to her and I told him to say bye bye so he said “bye bye paci.”  He didn’t use one that night or the next two nights then sunday for nap he must have found a hidden one so he used it then but then after his nap we cut it and he wanted to throw it away so he did and now we are completely done with them!  We switched him back to the toddler bed a few weeks ago and we’ve had some rough times with that but it’s getting better each night.  First, he was getting up really early each morning and coming to our room.  Then for a few nights he’d start crying at random times and one of us would go in and sleep next to his bed on the floor to comfort him.  Then we’ve struggled with getting him to sleep without one of us in there with him.  I spent at least an hour each night for a few days laying on the floor, rocking him, and patting his back to try to get him to sleep.  We’ve been practicing some tough love the past few days and it’s really working (along with all the praying!).  I still rock him for a little bit then lay him down but when he cries we don’t rush in there and lay on the floor.  It only took him a few minutes to go to sleep tonight.  He says some funny things like “that mine?” and “Mama hold you” which really means “hold me”.  He sings the Batman song, Wheels on the Bus, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, and the first 8 or so letters of the alphabet song.  He can also count to around 8.  He mimics whatever Noah does and they play well together.  I feel like we’re at a point where I don’t have to constantly entertain them because they can play with each other while I’m fixing dinner or doing other things around the house.  He loves to read books now like “Where the Wild Things Are” and the Dinosaur book and Old McDonald.  He loves to look at the tractors and other equipment in the Fastline catalogs.  His cow’s name is Elga and when I ask him what her name is he’ll tell me.  He’s getting taller and wearing mostly 2T clothing now.

Booster seat in car

September 20th, 2009 Kourtney Aller No comments

We got Noah a booster seat for the car and he loves it. He thinks he’s such a big boy to be able to use the seatbelt. We got a seat with dome airplanes on it which is another plus for him.

First OSU game for the boys

September 19th, 2009 Kourtney Aller No comments

We took the boys to Stillwater on Sept 19 for their first ever OSU football game. The Cowboys played Rice and won 41-24. Noah and Nathan liked seeing Bullet and Pistol Pete. They also got to see Eskimo Joe and Buffy. When I asked Nathan what Pete says he said “Go Pokes!”. My parents went too along with Ryan and me. It was nice having two extra sets of hands. The boys ate corn dogs, popcorn, and cotton candy. They also ate some of my peanut M&Ms so by the third quarter they were hyped up. As we left the stadium Nathan waved at the field and said “bye bye Cowboys.” the guy sitting behind us said our kids did good! We parked south of Hideaway and did some shopping at Chris’. Nonna bought Noah a big styrofoam pistol that kept him occupied.

We heart cupcakes!

September 18th, 2009 Kourtney Aller No comments

We love cupcakes around here. Our new favorites come from Green Goodies. They are delicious and organic. Noah got a red velvet with buttercream icing and Nathan got the chocolate on chocolate. I had a cookies and mint one that was fantastic! Ryan always gets the hostess one that is like the hostess cupcakes with the white swirl on top.

Big boy bed

September 15th, 2009 Kourtney Aller No comments

Nathan started crawling out of his crib last week. One morning he just walked into our room. I asked Noah if he had helped Nathan out of his crib and he said no. We decided that it would be safer to convert his crib to a toddler bed rather than have him hurt himself or fall out. He also learned (through noah’s example) how to crawl into the crib. He went down easily tonight, just like usual. He didn’t once get out of bed. We’ll see how the rest of the night and tomorrow morning goes. He’s getting so big!

Take home bear

September 15th, 2009 Kourtney Aller No comments

Noah came home from school today with a bear in a bag. It had a note saying that the bear came home to visit and has to go back to school but that the bear likes to read the good night book and has to be in bed by 8. Noah said that it was Mrs. Russ’s bear but that she told him it was his job to take care of it. Noah named the bear Rosco and we read the book to it tonight. Nathan also liked the bear and carried it around too. We have one more night with the bear.

Noah’s first day of preschool

September 8th, 2009 Kourtney Aller No comments

Noah started preschool at Warm World today. He was excited to go and meet his new friends. His new teacher is Mrs. Russ and she’s very nice. Wr had to take snacks for his class so we took some boxes of cheez-its and dropped them off a few weeks ago during Cookie Lookie. He’s asked me about them and wants to know where his cheez-its are.
